The Mahabubnagar District is surrounded by Hyderabad district in the North , Kurnool district in the South, Nalgoda and Prakasam districts in the East and Gulbarga and Rayachur districts of Karnataka State in the West  directions. It was under the rule of Cholas, Kakatiyans and Nizam Nawabs.
