The
Mahabubnagar District is surrounded by Hyderabad district in
the North , Kurnool district in the South, Nalgoda and
Prakasam districts in the East and Gulbarga and Rayachur
districts of Karnataka State in the West directions. The name
comes from Hyderabad Nawab Mir Mahaboob Ali khan (1869-1911).
The entire district was under the rule of Aurangazeb and till
18th century was under Mughal rule. When Hyderabad state
founded in 18th century this district came under the ruled of
the Nizam.
It
was under the rule of Cholas, Kakatiyans and Nizam
Nawabs.
