The Khammam district is surrounded by Madhya Pradesh State borders in the North, Krishna district in the South, East Godavari district in the East, Warangal and Nalgonda districts in the West directions.

This place was under the rule of Reddy, Ganapathi, Kushan, Vijayanagara and Nizam Kings. This district was formed in the year 1953.
