The
Adilabad district is surrounded by Maharastra State in the
North, East and West , Karimnagar and Nizamabad districts
in the South directions respectively. This district was
earlier called as Ethlabad. It was under the rule of ‘Gondu’
Kings. Historians opined that Manikgadh Fort had built by Gondu Kings.
And there are historical evidences of ‘Velama’ Kings, such
as engraved stone plates in the caves and mandirs. As such
it may be inferred that this area was ruled by ‘Velama’
Kings after the reign of Gondu Kings. The name Adilabad
was formed because of a renowned Sultan of Bijapur ‘Ali
Adilsholi’.
It
was under the rule of the kakatiya,Velama, Qutubshahi and
Asaf Jahin Kings. This district was formed in the year 1905.
